Lesson 1656. Lillenberg Watchmakers Club. Septembe Lesson 1656. Lillenberg Watchmakers Club. September ’26 edition. We had an amazing exploration day, having a mechanical watch workshop. We focused on learning by doing. The goal of the workshop was to gain an understanding of how a mechanical watch works, disassemble a watch movement and assemble the movement. We used ST36 movements that are ETA 6498 lookalikes by Seagull, a Chinese watch company. These are robust, 16.5 ligne pocket watch movements and very suitable for the first meeting with horological activities. The spirit of the workshop was high, and the attitude was energetic-enthusiastic. Both movement and dial side got disassembled and assembled. We had a flyer - a yoke spring got loose. We have this rule, that if one person looses a part, everyone steps in for search. That We found it under two minutes. One of the participants also received a set of professional watchmaking tools by @bergeon, @beco-technic and others, suitable for mechanical movement assembly and disassembly - all in a nice wooden box. Good luck in your watchmaking journeys, Rasmus! Thank you and welcome. 🐺 #watch #kellassepp #lillenberg #workshop #taster
Lesson 1655. Service. Schwarzwald recoil striking Lesson 1655. Service. Schwarzwald recoil striking clock. 90-100 years old. Last known servicemore than 10 years ago. However, it has been kept in pretty good shape and it has been serviced on regular basis. How do I know? Always going on the wall, no pivothole wear on plates. It is a rare piece that has been taken care of. Of course there are scratches on the plates insides, caused by hasty assembly, and other marks of brusque service. Long ago I have conlcuded, that sure way is to utilize round brooch on all pivot holes and polishing on all pivots. That way I can be sure, that if something is causing the clock to stop, it must be something else (endshakes, motion work, plates positioning, etc.). Before I started doing it on routine, pretty few clocks kept returning with grindning to halt after some time. Happy to use CZ50 @watchmakerlathe lathe for pivots, mostly for amazing set of collets, that match all kinds of random arbor diameters. 🐺

Lesson 1654. I met some crazy hobbyists from Kyiv, Lesson 1654. I met some crazy hobbyists from Kyiv, Ukraine. Check their stuff aristocrat_watches on instagram. Friends are contributing the weekends and evenings together to restore old watches to life. The team includes watchmakers, casemakers, strapmakers, laser- and metalworking specialists. The movements are are sourced, being serviced and restored. New cases are machined and finished, straps made. Crystals pressed and movement bridges coated. Then everything gets assembled together for the best aesthetics. Amazing team, amazing people. And of course, amazing watches. 🐺

Lesson 1653. Brits do it. A lovely Christopher War Lesson 1653. Brits do it. A lovely Christopher Ward timepiece landed on my bench. ETA 2824-2, welcome. The client diagnosed - it started to lose time, also some time has passed since last service. It is an everyday wearable and much loved watch so some wear is expected. What I found inside was interesting, but not unseen. Third wheel pivot had mushroomized, somehow a reverer intermediate wheel pivot on automatic works mainplate was damaged and at least one automatic works jewel chipped. Also the winind pinion was somewhat worn. So a handful of replacements. Also the bezel was behaving erratically. So Off it came, some hand cleaning + Molycote DX helped here. Now the watch is going throught the timing cycles. Soon to return home.

Lesson 1652. A little bit of quartzing. While adju Lesson 1652. A little bit of quartzing. While adjusting a magnificient Schwarzwald dead-beat, my attention goes to a lovely Tissot. “It’s just a batter change,” they say. Well, I say, it’s also cleaning, it’s also adding a dip of oil, it’s also water resistance test, it’s also an hour in ultrasonic cleaning followed by a ultrasonic rinse for the bracelet. And the 18 year old watch returns to the owner, looking and behaving excellent. I love when I open a watch and see my own handwriting from 5 year back inside the caseback (yes, thats how long the battery lasts on this one). A constant flow of returning customers makes me hope, they liked it. :)

Lesson 1651. Almost gone. My original first micros Lesson 1651. Almost gone. My original first microseries watch MSSN is about to come to end. The second to last amazing black dial MSSN went to Vilnius, Lithuania. Only the final piece is left. It will have either white or blue dial and it has a leather strap. The watch number is 12, engraved both on movement and on the case. As people were sometimes asking for specific numbers and some numbers were for example with stainless steel bracelet from the beginning the stock was utilised unevenly, so to peak. The 42mm case is of 316L steel, thick as a brick. Sapphire crystal in the front and hardened glass for the see through caseback. The watch houses ETA 2892A2 amazing movement, timed to +6/-6 sec per day in 5 positions. The strap is handmade on order, specifically for this watch and will last, literally for years. I will test the watch for 5ATM water resistance, before shipping. If you are interested let me know. The pics are for reference from the most recent watch that just landed on a distingushed gentelmans wrist yesterday.

Lesson 1650. Le Joux Perret G100. A drop in replac Lesson 1650. Le Joux Perret G100. A drop in replacement for ETA 2824 and Sellita SW200.1? Well, yes, almost. Except that the balance side clamping slot is a few degrees off. That means that if I really would replace the movement, a modification to the movement ring should be made. So be aware. Nothing wrong, but not just 100% drop in replacement. 🐺

Lesson 1649. A submariner, correct twice a day. Th Lesson 1649. A submariner, correct twice a day. This amazing submariner came in for assessment recently. Over 20 years old, perhaps never serviced. It never ceases to amaze me, how the power of belief renders expensive watches into a magic artifact state that never wears out or sustains any damage from wearing. I had the similar belief once, so I know it from the first hand experience. This Rolex, had a missing upper balance jewel when opened. That is a pretty common fault for lyra shaped cap spring equipped cal.3135. I think it is the third Rolex I see with similar fault. Of course the jewels \are in and about the movement. Fo this one it was pretty unhfortunate that the cap jewel was also broken, one third off. The watch is scheduled for service now. With extreme care, I reinstalled the cap jewel for a few weeks before service as I dont have a spare immediately available. Hope it holds until the service. 🐺

Lesson 1648. Watchmaking excellence. I was privile Lesson 1648. Watchmaking excellence. I was privileged to visit mr. Manel and Nacho Alabart at their workshop in central Barcelona this week. Alabarts are a watchmaking dynasty spanning at least three, but possible more generations. Recently they opened an expansion to their already great workshop. Absolute perfection in everything and forever pursuing new and higher goals are describing this amazing family the best. We went through the workshop, the equipment and the capabilities were introduced and explained by Nacho. Everything in the workshop is in excellent order and I would trust any of my watches for them to service. As expected the visit resulted in awarding the service certificate for Lillenberg watches. So when you wear my wach and happen to be in Barcelona, you are more then welcome to bring one to Alabarts for the service. They are clearly one of the top independent watchmakers in Barcelona. 🐺
